Перевожу: наиболее вероятная причина этого - то, что исходники ядра в /lib/mobules/бла-бла-бла не скофигурированы.
А теперь внимание вопрос: Зачем ставить дрова нвидии через инсталлер? Поставьте пакет.

Но пакетами будет однозначно лучше
Но пакеты искать мне для Вас лень. Поищите сами. Где-то должны быть, если не в офицальном репозитарии, то в неофициальном уж точно есть.
Кстати, не забывайте, что, т.к. у Вас старая видяха, то Вам нужны legacy драйвера

Видюха та же, но проблема другая-установил драйвер nvidia-96xx из репов, после чего иксы перестали стартовать. Никаких сообщений об ошибках и пр... просто выкидывает в консоль. В чём может быть проблема?
