Программная регулировка громкости ALSA

помогите
у меня в звуковой карте (на cmedia 9738 кажется) не работает аппаратная регулировка громкости
помогите сделать программную регулировку громкости в ALSA
в принципе пользую xmms и mplayer, которые это умеют... но все таки.... это реально или как?

не программа для регулировки, а программная регулировка
как в mplayer -softvol
