Есть ноутбук с видеокартой GeForce 7000M и разрешением экрана 1440x900. На проприетарном драйвере с разрешением проблем нет, все легко выставляется через nvidia-settings.
Но тут недавно делал чистку/подстройку системы, и обнаружил что nvidia является единственным бинарником среди всех установленных пакетов (не считая пакеты-эмули х86). Т.к. в игрушки я не играю, хочется перейти на открытый драйвер. Однако как оказалось не все так просто... Открытые драйвера ни в какую не хотят работать на 1440x900
vesa, как ни крути xorg.conf, все равно грузит 1024x768
nv драйвер вообще не видит видеокарту (No devices detected / Fatal server error)
Вот xorg.conf (в данном случае nv-драйвер, если поменять на nvidia, все прекрасно работает)
