Уже неделю бьюсь...
Для длинных конфигов используйте тег codebox, форум становится гораздо читабельней. (dd2k)
А у меня другая проблема - скачал, собрал, вроде все нормально - но при попытке запустить - просто черный экран и все. Помогает только ctrl + alt + backspace

Ну, под BSD не знаю... А под Gentoo - я ничего специально не скачивал, просто ввел emerge quake4-bin оно само поставилось, в конце сказало что надо паки (с диска) кинуть в ~/.quake4/q4base

зы Берил тоже стоит, никаких глюков... в отличие от седеговых игр.

На ftp.idsoftware.com нет ничего нелегального. Там есть исходники и бинарники, которые можно скачать и использовать. Другое дело, что понадобятся файлы с данными от честно купленной версии.
Скачал с офф. фтпшника run файл ква4, установил, все изумительно, вот только при старте из консоли (ибо в меню кед не прописался) бежит текст, потом экран моргает черным и снова раб.стол с консолью, а там про невозможность найти GL_ARB_texture_compression. Где и чего танцевать? На всякий случай привожу весь лог. так сказать:

Set r_useSDLModes to 1 if you want it - если только в этом дело, то где этот параметр вообще находится? в каком конфиге его прописывать?
А что там у вас root делает? Игра устанавливается и запускается от юзера.
Короче давайте всё по порядку, что за видеокарта/драйвер, а также как ставили игру.
Карта - двухголовая Intel 855GME (ноут у меня)
Дрова на нее встали сами при установке системы, поэтому я ни разу как то и не интересовался)
буду рад, если подскажите как это сделать.
рут появился очень легко - я запускал инсталятор от его имени. игру он положил в /usr/local/games/quake4
а /.qauke4 - соответственно в /root . )
