Как заставить mutt (принимать внешнюю почту)

Как заставить mutt принимать внешнюю почту по IMAP?. И отправлять, не используя локальный МТА? По SMTP... посоветуйте... что-то в манах не нашех, а Гугление ничего толкового не дало.

Отправлять - никак. Чтобы не настраивать sendmail - пользуй msmtp.

      Using msmtp with Mutt

      If  you  want  to  use msmtp with Mutt, create a configuration file for
      msmtp and add the following line to your Mutt configuration file:
      set sendmail="/path/to/msmtp"
      Do not add "--" to this line, because Mutt will add "--" itself.
      You might want to add
      set use_from=no
      my_hdr From: "Your Name" <yourmail@yourprovider.com>
      to Mutt's configuration file (see the Mutt manual).

      Note that msmtp does not understand sendmail options, so some  sendmail
      specific  Mutt configuration options will not work (these carry a warn-
      ing in the muttrc man page similar  to  "you  should  not  enable  this
      unless you are using Sendmail 8.8.x or greater"). You must set your DSN
      options in msmtps configuration file, not in Mutts,  for  example.  An
      exception is Mutts "set envelope_from" option, which will work (it uses
      msmtps -f option).

      If you have multiple mail accounts in  your  msmtp  configuration  file
      (called  "default", "work", "extra" for example), you can easily switch
      between them in Mutt:

      Add the following lines to your Mutt configuration file:
      set sendmail="/path/to/msmtp"
      macro generic "<esc>1" ":set sendmail=\"/path/to/msmtp\""
      macro generic "<esc>2" ":set sendmail=\"/path/to/msmtp -a work\""
      macro generic "<esc>2" ":set sendmail=\"/path/to/msmtp -a extra\""
      You can now switch between the  accounts  with  <esc>1  (use  "default"
      account), <esc>2 (use "work" account), <esc>3 (use "extra" account).

Насчет получения - mutt не может просто так тянуть почту с нескольких серверов. Поэтому для него предпочтительней использовать fetchmail + procmail. Хотя в последних версиях может ситуация и изменилась.

Mutt -- это MUA, Mail user agent. Предназначен только для чтения почты. Для написания использует внешний редактор, для приёма\отправки почты -- тоже. А насчёт IMAP: google не пробовал? Оч. помогает http://www.google.ru/search?q=mutt+imap

P.S. Пользуюсь masqmail, а не msmtp/ssmtp
